- With a Stout Shield and healing items, Dark Seer can go to kill neutral creeps almost immediately.
- An advanced jungling tactic involves Smoke of Deceit. By combining it with Ion Shell, Dark Seer can jungle without taking any damage from creeps, as the only thing that removes the invisibility is proximity to an enemy hero or auto attacking a unit. In this way, Dark Seer can stack a single camp multiple times, cast Ion Shell on himself, pop Smoke, and stand at the camp until the creeps have been killed. Because of the steep cost of Smoke, it is advised that players do not use it without stacking camps first. As of the July 26th patch neutrals will now run away when attacked by an invisible enemy, players can still choose to use this method of jungling by chasing the creeps while invisible or casting on a weak neutral but the method will be far less efficient compared to before.
- If laning, be sure to harass enemies with Ion Shell by placing it on their melee creeps (for melee heroes) or ranged creeps (for ranged heroes). Additionally, placing Ion Shell on the second allied melee creep to arrive at the creep line is a good way to push the lane as well as create a moving damage-dealing creep that will chase enemy heroes.
- Be sure to take at least 1 early point of Surge, as it can help escaping ganks and chasing, as well as giving more mobility.
- When chasing, self-cast Ion Shell and run next to the enemy without attacking, using Surge if you need to catch up. Even better, use surge to body-block enemy heroes (that is, get in front of them to hinder their movement) and deliver auto-attacks without moving out of range of the Ion Shell.
- Wall of Replica is usually skilled after you've maxed both Ion Shell and Vacuum, as early game illusions don't deal much damage. Additionally, the relatively high mana cost at lower levels can be prohibitive, as you won't be left with much mana to cast other spells.
- AoE spells, especially those that require positioning, greatly benefit from Vacuum, as you can place all of them together to ensure a hit.
- Using Vacuum on enemy heroes to send them through your Wall of Replica will disallow foes from preventing illusions, as well as causing guaranteed damage from passing through the Wall.
- Due to Vacuum and Ion Shell's instant cast, your usefulness in large team fights permit Dark Seer to synergize extremely well with heroes such as Enigma and Jakiro. Make sure to cast these abilities with Black Hole and Ice Path/Macropyre/Liquid Fire to maximize AoE damage and maybe turn the tide in battle.
- Lifestealer's fun/alternate name in DotA was Gollum, a significant character in the Lord of the Rings book series.
- The old version of Lifestealer was a Strength hero with an incredibly high Agility potential (+4.5), much more than almost all the Agility hero themselves. Despite being a Strength hero, he had poor overall Strength. His old skills were:
- Feast used to be an aura-based lifesteal which stacks with lifesteal attack modifiers. Unlike the Skeleton King's Vampiric Aura, Feast only applies to himself. The high life gain and high Agility makes N'aix a vicious warrior of great survivability, able to take down the old mighty Roshan.
- Poison Sting acts almost similar to Venomancer's Poison Sting, but the slow is more potent, and it's an attack modifier.
- Anabolic Frenzy was also a passive ability that gave some attack and movement speed.
- Rage used to be his ultimate, with a longer duration, but it increases attack damage instead of attack speed. Rage makes N'aix an already strong fighter more fearful and dangerous.
- There is a term called the N'aix bomb among players which includes a N'aix player infesting a high mobility hero such as Storm Spirit, Puck, or Queen of Pain etc. to initiate upon enemies by having these heroes enter the fray and unleashing all of their own skills in quick succession before N'aix himself comes out of them and dealing the nuke damage of Infest while following it up with his dps using Rage.
- A number of Sniper's lines are either direct quotations or paraphrases of lines used by the Sniper class in Team Fortress 2, a popular class-based shooter also by Valve. Such phrases include: "Thanks for standing still, wanker!", "Let's have a go at it", "Professionals have standards", "I am polite and efficient", and "As long as there's two heroes on the battlefield, someone is gonna want someone dead".
- Sniper's name in DotA, Kardel Sharpeye, is a reference to professional Counter-Strike player Kyle "Ksharp" Miller of team 3D, who is regarded for his skillful AWP (Sniper rifle) use.
- Sniper's fun name in DotA was Vassili Zacjev/Zaitsev, a highly skilled Russian sniper who was active during World War 2.
- Sniper's line "What a dum-dum!" is a pun on the dum-dum, or expanding bullet. It is designed to expand on impact in order to limit penetration and create a wound larger in diameter.
- Sniper's eye wear was added to Team Fortress 2 on the 18th August 2011 as Sniper's Snipin' Glass.
- Sniper and
Gyrocopter have the fastest attack missile
speed in the game, which is 3000. Coupled with his range, this makes him
one of the best last-hitting heroes in the game.
- It is good to get a lot of attack speed later on when your Juxtapose clones become viable so that you have a higher chance of creating a mirror image.
- Don't neglect Strength. It is easy to build all Agility. However, that leaves him open to easy ganks.
- Taking Juxtapose too early will leave Phantom Lancer at a great disadvantage, especially since his attack speed is too low for it to proc at a reliable rate.
- Phantom Lancer's early game
mana pool is very low, so it is recommended for him to take multiple
levels of
Doppelwalk early in the game unless using a
soul ring build.
- Phantom Edge gives Phantom Lancer some magic resistance. Because of this, it's considered a better choice to take it over Juxtapose when possible.
- Illusions are counted as Heroes in a target check. However, they receive effects intended for units. An example is Witch Doctor's Paralyzing Cask, which will stun Phantom Lancer's illusions by 5 seconds. Even with this fact, Hero-only spells like Doombringer's LVL? Death can be casted on images.
- Watch out for Earthshaker! His Echo Slam also generates an echo for every illusion.
- Creating confusion for your
enemies is what the Phantom Lancer is all about!
Doppelwalk illusions to cause unnecessary
chases, wasted Meat Hooks,
pointless ultimates, and frustration for your enemy! Be careful to pay
attention to the real Phantom Lancer for whatever he's doing while your
clones run around, however!
- Illusions can have Shallow Grave cast on them if a Dazzle is on your team; you can further fool your enemy by making them chase the wrong Phantom Lancer
- Often times, you're better off
using your
Doppelwalk illusion to scout for enemy
heroes lurking around in the forests early game instead of trying to use
it to farm creeps.
- When choosing an item build, remember that not all passive abilities are shared with illusions.
